Background
The Nordic Liaison Office
The mission of UNDPs Nordic Liaison Office is to inform the Nordic public, media and governments about the Millennium Development Goals and UNDP’s efforts to meet them. The office is located in Copenhagen, with sub offices in Oslo, Stockholm and Helsinki.
Purpose of the Consultancy
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNDP Nordic Head of Communications, the Communications and Liaison Consultant design and implement the strategy for launching the Human Development Report in Norway. The event is one of the major activities conducted by the Nordic Liaison Office as part of UNDP’s Nordic communications strategy which are geared to influence the development agenda, promote public and media outreach and mobilize political and financial support for UNDP in Norway.
The Communications and Liaison Consultant maintains a close working relationship with colleagues in the other Nordic countries. The Communications Consultant works in close collaboration with the staff of other UN Agencies, UNDP HQs staff (Communications Office and Division for Resource Mobilization), Government officials, the media, and civil society ensuring successful launch implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The key results have an impact on creation of effective communications and dissemination of information on UNDP as UN’s global development network and deliverer of development policy advice.
Design, implementation and reporting of Norwegian launch of the Human Development Report (HDR)
Ensures design, implementation and reporting of Norwegian launch of the Human Development Report focusing on achievement of the following results:
* Initiate and coordinate translation of Norwegian summary
* Invite speakers and guests to the launch
* Secure funding for the activities
* Coordinate launch event
* Secure visibility of report though public outreach
* Report back on the outcome
* Suggest follow up actions
Competencies
* Strong understanding of UNDP’s work on democratic governance;
* Strong understanding of development programming and the current aid development agenda;
* Track record of research and research management in democratic governance;
* Excellent analytical and research skills;
* Proven proficiency in report writing in English;
* Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner.
Required Skills and Experience
* Master's degree in media relations, journalism, international relations or development studies
* 5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level in public outreach, journalism, communications or advocacy.
* Previous working experience with UNDP
* Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages, good knowledge and experience in handling of web- based management systems
