Senior Banks/FIs Analyst
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the long term financing institution of the European Union, investing in/lending to projects that further EU policy objectives. The EIB is based in Luxembourg, and is a self-financing and not-for-profit European Institution and bank.
The Transaction Management & Restructuring Department (TMR) is an autonomous department, proactively following the EIB loan book, post-signature, thereby enabling the EIB to act on post-signature events, and to protect its financial interests and reputation. The Counterpart, Contract Monitoring & Review Division (CMR) is responsible for the regular monitoring of Corporate and Bank/FI counterparts and associated contracts.
As the successful candidate, you will contribute to the EIB’s regular financial monitoring activity of Bank-guaranteed and Bank-intermediated transactions.
Responsibilities
The overall remit of the role is to monitor an assigned portfolio of Bank/FI counterparts, through the performance of regular reviews, and to negotiate and implement the necessary follow up actions. More specifically, you will:
Follow an agreed program of regular reviews of Bank/FIs counterparts and contracts, to assess the credit standing of the EIB’s counterparts and their compliance with contracts
Perform ad hoc reviews, as necessary, in response to external market activity
Propose internal credit ratings for counterparts
Closely follow the on-going developments in the Financial Services industry, and specific EIB counterparts in the sector
Review security, assignments and guarantees
Collaborate and coordinate activities with the other EIB Departments involved in the Lending process, notably: Credit Risk, Restructuring, Front Office and Legal
Contribute to the CMR Division’s regular reports, flagging any Watch List cases for specific counterparts/operations
Ensure that assigned counterparts comply with Credit Risk Policies and Guidelines, Management Committee approvals, and TMR procedures, liaising closely with the Credit Risk Department for any counterpart limit issues.
Qualifications
University degree in a business related subject, preferably supplemented by post-graduate studies and/or training in financial analysis
At least 5 years’ professional experience in the Credit assessment and/or rating of Banks/FIs, gained within a bank, other financial institution or rating agency.
Ability to assess contractual compliance and to address waivers and amendments of contractual clauses
Good understanding of the EIB’s mission, policies, procedures, organisation and activities
Excellent knowledge of English and/or French. Fluency in German, Portuguese or Spanish.
Competencies
Ability to provide sound judgment on a variety of credit and legal issues
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Capacity to plan and organize her/his work
Aptitude to deliver reviews and notes under time pressure
