Responsibilities
This position is located in the Victims and Witnesses Section, Registry. As part of a team directed by the Chief, Victims and Witnesses Section (VWS), the incumbent ensures the provision of support services to maintain the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of victims and witnesses appearing before the ICTY. The incumbents’ responsibilities will encompass receiving and verifying details about victims and witnesses appearing before the ICTY; recording details about them on file and other records; assessing needs and making preparations prior to the arrival of the witness, provision of care during the testimony period and follow-up/referral care post-testimony. This includes; assisting in the preparation of all victims and witnesses traveling to The Hague and where necessary making prior arrangements for their care during the time of their stay; following on a regular basis Court hearings to monitor the well-being of victims and witnesses during their testimony, and providing counseling, support interventions and debriefing to witnesses before court, during court session breaks and at the end of testimony or anytime throughout their stay in The Hague; assessing victim and witnesses needs for medical or other professional intervention and to ensure that such assistance is effectively provided by liaison with relevant specialist bodies in The Netherlands that provide medical, psychological and psychiatric assistance; facilitating referrals for follow-up services with relevant national bodies and NGO’s that provide assistance and support to victims and witnesses in countries where they reside. The incumbent will work collaboratively with other Units of the VWS to ensure comprehensive support services to witnesses. They will be required to maintain up-to-date and detailed records on individual cases of victims and witnesses, their needs, and the assistance required and provided to them, will assist the Deputy and the Chief of VWS in the development, production and updating of existing materials and resources to inform victims and witnesses about their appearance before the ICTY, and will at all times maintain strict confidentiality about any matters relating to victims and witnesses.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education
Advanced university degree in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant subject. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
Work Experience
Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the witness support field.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the Tribunal. For the post advertised, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Bosnian/Serbian/Croatian is highly desirable. Knowledge of Dutch and/or French is an advantage.
Other Skills
